RCBOs

An RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection) combines two jobs in one device. It works as an RCD, detecting earth leakage and cutting the supply within milliseconds to protect people from electric shock. It also works as an MCB, guarding the circuit against overloads and short circuits. Because each RCBO protects a single circuit, a fault on one circuit won't trip the others, which makes RCBOs a popular choice for consumer units, commercial distribution boards and installations where downtime matters.

The term ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) is still widely used for this family of devices, and this category sits within our Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers range alongside RCDs. A standard RCD gives earth leakage protection to a group of circuits but doesn't protect against overcurrent. An RCBO gives you both on a per-circuit basis.

When choosing an RCBO, check:
Current rating to suit the circuit load
Tripping curve (Type B, C or D) for the type of equipment
Residual current sensitivity, typically 30mA for personal protection
RCD type (Type A, AC, F or B) for the loads on the circuit
Pole configuration and breaking capacity
