RCCBs

CSE supplies RCCBs sourced from leading manufacturers including ABB, IMO and Eaton. An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) protects people from electric shock and reduces the risk of fire caused by earth faults. It constantly compares the current flowing in the live and neutral conductors. If it detects an imbalance, meaning current is leaking to earth, it disconnects the supply within milliseconds.

RCCB is a common name for an RCD (Residual Current Device), and many people still call these devices ELCBs (Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers). An RCCB gives earth leakage protection only, so it has to be used alongside MCBs or fuses. If you need both functions in a single device for each circuit, see our RCBOs range.

RCCBs are often fitted in consumer units and distribution boards to protect a group of circuits at once, making them a cost-effective choice for domestic, commercial and industrial installations.

When choosing an RCCB, check:

Rated current to suit the load
Residual current sensitivity, typically 30mA for personal protection or 100mA and 300mA for fire protection
RCD type (Type AC, A, F or B)
Number of poles, such as 2 pole or 4 pole
