RCD Blocks

CSE supplies RCD blocks sourced from leading manufacturers ABB and Eaton. An RCD block, also called an RCD add-on module, fits alongside a compatible MCBs from the same range. Together they work as a combined device, giving both earth leakage and overcurrent protection.

An RCD (Residual Current Device) constantly compares the current flowing in the live and neutral conductors. If it detects an imbalance, meaning current is leaking to earth, it trips within milliseconds to protect people from electric shock and reduce the risk of fire. Many people still call these devices ELCBs (Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers), and RCD blocks sit within our Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers range alongside RCCBs and RCBOs.

RCD blocks are a flexible alternative to an RCBO, especially for higher current ratings and multi-pole circuits. Pairing a block with an MCB lets you choose the overcurrent rating and the residual current settings separately to suit the application. Some models offer adjustable sensitivity and time delay for selectivity in commercial and industrial installations.

When choosing an RCD block, check:
Compatibility with your MCB range and number of poles
Rated current to match or exceed the MCB
Residual current sensitivity , such as 30mA, 100mA, 300mA or adjustable
RCD type
(Type AC, A or B)
