Rolling Stock Power Control and Protection

For switching, control and protection on board, CSE can source the ABB Rolling Stock range alongside the AF..(Z)B contactors, which are rated for installation anywhere on a vehicle, including passenger and driver cabins on main line, metro and tram applications. Where machine safety functions are required, the ABB Pluto programmable safety controller offers a configurable solution designed to recognised functional safety standards, with units interconnected over CAN bus. Together these cover the core power distribution, motor control and safety needs of modern traction and auxiliary systems.

Terminal Blocks and Interconnection

Control cabinets, junction boxes and distribution panels rely on secure terminal connections. CSE can supply the Entrelec range of terminals and accessories from TE Connectivity, used throughout rail vehicles and trackside cabinets to terminate, distribute and protect wiring. The range offers screw, spring and push-in connection technologies along with accessories for marking and bridging, providing the mechanical security needed to withstand the constant vibration found in service. Interface Relays, Switching and Timing

Finder's railway portfolio is well suited to lighting, door control, driver's console and ancillary circuits. CSE can source the 39 Series MasterPLUS Railway relay interface modules, and Finder's railway timers, all drawn from the dedicated Finder railway catalogue. These ranges are compliant with EN 45545-2 for protection against fire and fumes, EN 61373 (category 1, class B) for shock and vibration, and EN 50155 (class OT4/ST1) for temperature and humidity, making them a dependable choice for interfacing control signals to loads.

Enclosure Climate Control

To prevent condensation and low temperature on electronics inside cabinets, CSE can source Stego's Loop series touch-safe enclosure heaters, available from 10 W to 150 W. This includes the LT 065, LTF 065 and LTS 064 models. Their touch-safe housing limits surface temperature to around 80°C, and the series is certified shock and vibration proof to EN IEC 61373 (category 1 B), making it suitable for trains, railcars and trackside control cabinets.

Cable Glanding and Conduit Protection

Where cables enter enclosures or run exposed, fire performance and ingress protection both matter. CSE can supply the Wiska SPRINT Railway 'RW' cable gland series together with the Brace conduit and fittings system, tested to EN 45545-2 and EN 45545-3 at hazard level 3, with E30 room sealing options. For routing and mechanical protection, the ABB PMA conduit range (PMAFLEX) provides interior and exterior solutions classified to EN 45545-2 HL2 and HL3, covering bogie, under carriage and passenger area installations.

Power, Signalling and Communication Cable

For the cabling that links every system, CSE can source the Lapp ÖLFLEX TRAIN range of electron beam cross-linked rolling stock cables, built to EN 50264 and approved to EN 45545-2 across hazard levels HL1 to HL3, with versions rated to temperatures as low as -40°C for external runs. For communications, CSE can also supply CW1600 telephone cable and railway telecom cable from the British Cables Company, completing a cable offering that spans power, signalling and communication needs.
