Cable Colours

Cable Colours Below is information from the National Inspection Council For Electrical Installation Contracting on the new Cable Colours. The amendment to BS 7671 that, amongst other things, introduces changes to the identification of conductors by colour throughout the UK, was published in on March 31 2004. The amendment will include a new Appendix F, giving guidance on alterations and additions to installations wired in the old cable colours. The amendment, Amendment No 2, was due to be approved for publication by the committee responsible for the technical content of BS 7671 at the end of November. Cables with the new colours are expected to become available for installation work at about the same time as Amendment No 2 to BS 7671 is published. Full details of the changes, and guidance on the requirements for installation (including marking at the interfaces between the old and new colours), will be given in the Spring (March) issue of Connections.
