New hybrid Furse® Type 1+2+3 Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) now available

Monday 11th November 2024

Wherever computers and other electronic equipment are connected to a mains power supply, they are at risk from transient overvoltages caused by the secondary effects of lightning. This leaves critical equipment prone to data loss and disruption, as well as component degradation and damage.

With innovative hybrid component technology, ABB Installation Products have just launched the combined Type 1+2+3 Furse® ESP DT1 and ESP MT1 Surge Protection Devices (SPDs). These new Furse SPDs offer high 12.5kA (10/350) direct lightning current surge capability (to BS 7671 requirements), yet provide low surge let-through voltage for superior best in class performance, convenient installation, and easy maintenance thanks to its enhanced electronic status indication.

ESP DT1 and MT1 SPDs are suitable for installations of any supply current and are “Enhanced SPDs" to IEC/BS EN 62305, offering low (superior) voltage protection that further minimizes the risk of flashover creating dangerous sparking or electric shock on mains power distribution systems, whilst offering greater equipment protection.

Compared to standard SPDs, enhanced SPDs offer both technical and economic advantages:

• Combined equipotential bonding and transient overvoltage protection (Type 1+2 & Type 1+2+3)

• Full mode (common and differential mode) protection, essential to safeguard sensitive electronic equipment from all types of transient overvoltage (lightning & switching)

• Effective SPD co-ordination within a single unit versus installation of multiple standard Type SPDs to protect terminal equipment

Feel free to contact us for more information about these new Furse Surge Protection Devices (SPDs).
